The Tri's Are Back!

Ever since selling out of my Tri Color Mini Lops, I have missed their fun markings and faces in my barn. I do not regret that choice, however, as it enabled me to focus more on just improving type on my entire herd. I have toyed with the idea numerous times about bringing the Tri colors back. But never followed through. Then one day this spring, a litter was born. This litter came with many surprises! The Dam Valadez's Desire a broken frosted pearl was bred to GML Windigo, a solid blue. Windigo traced back to my tri lines about three or four generations back. So it was never a thought that anything tri related would pop out. (Guess this just shows that I need to study up on genetics a bit more!) Windigo was chosen to be bred to Desire in hopes of combining Desire's short smooth body to Windigo's width and large head in the offspring.

When the litter was born, I was shocked to see not one but two Japanese marked and two Magpie marked Mini Lops! I was beyond shocked, and yet tickled at the same time! Although I see these colors all the time in my Harlequin litters, it was so fun to see them again in my Mini Lops. Watching the litter grow and develop, it became apparent to me that the best in the litter just happened to be a Japanese doe! To me this was a sign!! This was the only sign I needed to tell me, it's time to bring back the tris!!!!

I slowly began the search for the right buck to match up with the Japanese doe held back from Desire's litter. Taking my time, and talking with other Mini Lop breeders who work with Tri Colors I was able to find the handsome Hill Top's Cowboy From Hell!

Cowboy comes from Hill Top Lops in Nyssa, Oregon. Sired by Registered Grand Champion Hill Top's Rodeo. (Hence the name Cowboy, with my own little twist being a HUGE Pantera fan!) Cowboy is one of the sweetest boys in the barn. Although I would like to see more black to balance him out color wise. Type wise he is the perfect match for GML Amelia Pond (Pictured above).

In addition to Amelia, Cowboy has another young lady in the barn! GML Scream of the Butterfly! Butterfly is out of GML Butterfly Effect and Valadez's Angus. Butterfly's mom unfortunately passed when she was only about a week old, and she was fostered with GML Siister Sin. She is one of 5 surviors of the litter of 9. Butterfly will be used in both programs and should produce some beautiful tri colors with Cowboy, as well as being bred into the main herd!

She is still young, growing, marturing and taking her time to develop as she is a bit behind others her age due to her rough start and loosing her mom early on.

We are hoping here soon to be adding a Tri doe to the program as we are waiting for a certain breeding from Hill Top Lops to kindle! Our first tri breedings will be done in early Spring in hopes of having some fantastic tris to put on the table next show year! Check back to see how they do!!
